In a major crackdown on illegal drug trade in Bhubaneswar, the Special Crime Unit and STF conducted raids at multiple locations, targeting ganja peddling. A masala shop in Unit-4, operating under the guise of selling spices, was found dealing ganja, leading to its sealing and the arrest of the shopkeeper. Similarly, a tea stall and other small shops were raided, with significant quantities of ganja seized near the railway station. The code word “bhog” was used to discreetly sell ganja packets for ₹30 each. Over five individuals, including college students at a hideout in Ward No. 9, were detained. The rising brown sugar and ganja trade in the capital has raised concerns, with police intensifying efforts to curb the menace, though questions remain about fully dismantling the network.
