After nearly 11 years, the verdict in the widely discussed child specialist murder case in Subarnapur has finally been delivered. The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Subarnapur has sentenced both accused to life imprisonment.
On the evening of November 21, 2014, renowned pediatrician and then Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO) Dr. Durbadal Mishra was brutally murdered in front of his residence at Palace Garden in Subarnapur. The incident shocked the entire region and became a subject of widespread discussion.
Following the murder, the police arrested two accused individuals in connection with the case. After a prolonged legal battle lasting over a decade, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court has sentenced the accused, Pratyush Panda (alias Babulu) and Ashok Sahu, to life imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹25,000 each.
The public prosecutor in the case was Dasharath Mahana, while the defense was represented by advocate Rajendra Agrawal. The defense counsel stated that they plan to challenge the verdict in a higher court, whereas the public prosecutor declined to comment further on the judgment.
The case file reportedly includes visual evidence of the accused, crime scene visuals, and photographs of the deceased doctor, which played a crucial role in the investigation and trial.
This case serves as a significant example of justice being delivered, albeit after a long delay, in a matter that deeply affected the local medical community and the general public.
